Thunder Butte offers a few different training options. We offer a Train the Trainer and a Traditional training option. All training is done at our Deckers Kennels where we always have Pigeons both homing and shooter. We also stock a flight pen most the time with Chukar.
Train the Trainer
This is how most of our training is done.
Who better to train your dog then the person who is going to handle the dog,
you. These session take place 2 weekends a month April through October.
Some
of the commands we will work with you and your dogs during these sessions
include come, whoa, fetch, come around, and common bird work. Two Train the
Trainer sessions are all included in the purchase of our dogs, you just pay for
any bird you use. Most sessions are open to a group of people. This
seems to work well and everyone learns from each others dogs and the different
levels they are at.
Sessions
are $50 per day plus the cost of any birds. Private sessions are
available cost will very depending on work needed, please
contact us regarding pricing or time of our next open session.

Traditional Training
If
we said this was like the training you get from other trainers we would be
lying! Number one we limit the number of dogs that we will take in for
training. John who heads up this training is always on site, so this means
your dog gets worked everyday normally multiple times a day (depending on
weather of course).
More
importantly being on site all night we know if something is happening to your
dog immediately not the next day. This along with over 25 years of
experience training so many hunting dogs no one can count, and also a number of
field trial dogs including master hunters and regional champions. Also we
feel you should not just drop your dog off for a month or more and never be
around it. We promote you coming up and working your dog with us as your
schedule permits. We are NOT a large kennel that in order to keep our
business going must have a specific number of dogs in our kennels. We work with a limited number of dogs and people
only producing quality dogs and happy owner. This is the only way we will
have it.
